A Journey Through Ancient Rome at Spa Aire in Copenhagen

Stepping into Spa Aire in Copenhagen feels like stepping back in time. Nestled beneath the city streets in an ancient cistern, the spa recreates the essence of a Roman bathhouse with stunning stone arches, soft lighting, and the warm glow of real candles. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was going to be a decadent and inspiring experience.

One of the highlights of Spa Aire is its seamless approach to relaxation. With prepaid services, there’s no need to worry about tipping—just like other European spas—allowing you to focus entirely on unwinding. We opted for the Couples Escape package, which included a 90-minute couples massage followed by 90 minutes in the Roman baths. Despite exceeding our allotted time, we never felt rushed, a testament to the spa's emphasis on tranquility.

The Massage: A Mixed Experienc

The couples massage was a blend of experiences for us. My session was exceptional, with firm pressure and targeted techniques that left me feeling revitalized. Gabriel, on the other hand, described his as a more basic Swedish massage. Despite this disparity, we both agreed that the warm oil facial massage at the end was a delightful and indulgent touch, perfectly rounding out the treatment.

The Baths: A Soothing Ritual

The Roman baths were a multisensory journey, designed to rejuvenate body and mind. We started in the tepidarium, with its comfortably warm waters, before moving to the herbal-infused steam room. The frigidarium—an icy plunge pool—became a repeated stop, delivering invigorating benefits with each dip.

The spa’s saltwater pool was another standout. Floating effortlessly in its buoyant waters was an otherworldly experience, and the nearby mountain of salt provided a natural exfoliant that left our skin feeling renewed. A cool feature we loved was the white stone walk with flowing cold water, which added a refreshing element to the overall experience.

Ancient Atmosphere, Modern Luxury

What truly sets Spa Aire apart is its atmosphere. The underground setting, with its arches, amphorae, and tranquil pools, feels like a scene from ancient Rome. Yet, the spa incorporates modern luxuries to ensure every guest feels pampered. The attention to detail in the design creates a soothing environment that inspires awe and relaxation in equal measure.

Why Spa Aire is Worth It

Our visit to Spa Aire was a decadent retreat from the outside world. From the historical ambiance to the thoughtful amenities, every detail is designed to envelop you in serenity. While our massage experiences varied, the baths and overall atmosphere made this visit unforgettable. If you’re looking for a unique and inspiring escape in Copenhagen, Spa Aire is a must.

Pro Tip: Make sure to give yourself extra time to explore the baths at your own pace. It’s worth lingering in this modern-day Roman oasis.
