A Luxurious Spa Getaway in Baden-Baden, Germany

If you’re dreaming of a European spa escape that combines rich history, luxurious thermal baths, and modern indulgence, look no further than Baden-Baden, Germany. Known as a wellness capital, Baden-Baden offers a mix of world-class spas, historic bathhouses, and vibrant local culture. Here’s a glimpse into our unforgettable spa getaway, staying at the chic Roomers Hotel and experiencing the town’s most iconic spas.

Roomers Hotel: Modern Luxury with a Rooftop View

Our base for this trip was Roomers Hotel, part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. This modern, art-filled hotel is a departure from Baden-Baden’s traditional charm, offering a sleek and stylish experience.

Highlights of Roomers:

Rooftop Pool & Bar: The rooftop pool and bar deliver stunning views of Baden-Baden, along with a sultry vibe enhanced by cool house music. The cocktails were exceptional, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a day of spa-hopping.

Artistic Interiors: The hotel is adorned with contemporary art and cutting-edge design, creating an inspiring atmosphere throughout.

Lunch at Happy Plate

For lunch, we ventured to Happy Plate, a cozy Vietnamese spot. The meal was a delicious detour from European flavors, featuring:

Crisp and refreshing spring rolls

Fragrant jasmine tea

A standout dish: crispy duck with fried udon noodles

Friedrichsbad: A Timeless Bathing Ritual

No trip to Baden-Baden is complete without experiencing the Friedrichsbad, a historic Roman-Irish bathhouse offering a meticulously curated 17-step bathing ritual.

Highlights:

The beautifully preserved Roman decor adds a sense of grandeur to every step of the journey.

A series of warm and hot baths, steam rooms, and cool plunges leave you feeling completely rejuvenated.

The entire experience is tranquil and meditative, a must for lovers of traditional spa culture.

Thai Massage Bei Soap: Deep Relaxation in a Tented Oasis

For a more personal treatment, we visited Thai Massage Bei Soap. The pretty, tented couples' area felt private and inviting, and the therapists were warm, friendly, and spoke excellent English.

The 90-minute treatment combined:

Warm oil massage to relax muscles.

Traditional Thai stretching techniques that left our hips and shoulders feeling loose and refreshed.

Caracalla Baths: A Modern Thermal Experience

The Caracalla Baths offer a more contemporary thermal spa experience, with something for everyone.

Key features:

Upstairs Roman sauna area (nude): Alternating between the hot pool and cold plunge pools was invigorating. The outdoor Finnish sauna, fueled by firewood and set in a tranquil garden, was a highlight. The hourly Aufguss rituals with rotating scents like lemongrass, basil, and menthol were transformative.

Thermal baths (bathing suits required): Warm and cool pools with jets, both indoors and outdoors. The eucalyptus hammam was perfect for respiratory health.

Loungers with red light therapy added an extra layer of relaxation.

Outdoor pool with jets: Perfect for neck and back massages.

The atmosphere at Caracalla was international, with visitors from Germany, Russia, and Asia—yet refreshingly few Americans.

The café offered great smoothies and, fittingly, beer to round out the experience.

Sunday at Rotherma Thermalbad & Saunapark

To cap off our spa weekend, we visited the Rotherma Thermalbad und Saunapark in nearby Gaggenau.

The main pool, while busy with families, was equipped with powerful jets for a gentle aquatic massage.

The sauna area was particularly memorable:

A lively “sauna with a smile” where music played, and people danced between herbal Aufguss steam sessions.

A variety of saunas and warm and cool baths provided endless options to relax and recharge.

Final Thoughts

Baden-Baden is truly a spa lover’s paradise, blending the old-world charm of Friedrichsbad with the modern luxury of Caracalla Baths and the lively energy of Rotherma Thermalbad. Staying at Roomers Hotel added a chic, contemporary edge to the trip, making it an ideal home base for exploring this historic spa town.

Whether you’re soaking in the town’s thermal waters, enjoying a vigorous Thai massage, or sipping a cocktail on Roomers’ rooftop, Baden-Baden offers the ultimate rejuvenation getaway. It's a destination we can’t wait to return to.
