Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa… the spa that wasn’t
When it comes to planning a romantic getaway, a couple's spa visit often tops the list for relaxation and rejuvenation. Recently, we had the opportunity to explore the spa offerings at Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa, and we're here to share our candid experience through our Luxury Spa Report.
Especially for new spas in hotels, it can be really difficult to determine what kind of amenities and experiences are on offer. With limited reviews and photos to go by, visitors to a new spa may have no way to know whether it’s a bare-bones single hotel room that they call a spa, or a full-fledged wellness experience. We learned this lesson the hard way when we visited the Hutchinson Island Resort and Spa on the east coast of Florida.
The ‘spa’ is really just a couple of tiny treatment rooms and a desk. The lounge area is literally a closet, where the two of us could barely fit. But the pricing is similar to high-end hotel spas, which made it really disappointing. Read on for all the highs and lows of our afternoon at this seaside spa.
Intimate Setting: Tiny Locker Room and Closet-Sized Relax Room
Our journey to relaxation encountered some surprises. The locker room turned out to be tiny, with only one shower available. The relaxation area was closet-sized, limiting the space for unwinding before and after treatments. It was an unexpected aspect that truly surprised us.
Lack of Amenities: A Consideration for Future Spa-Goers
One notable observation was the absence of amenities in the spa area. While we were allowed to use the very crowded hotel pool, the spa itself lacked additional facilities that could enhance the overall experience. This is a crucial consideration for those seeking a comprehensive spa retreat. We typically seek out spas that offer co-ed relaxation areas, saunas, whirlpools, and other enhancements.
Bliss Treatment: A Mixed Bag of Sensations
The spa experience began with the promise of ultimate relaxation on a massage table that turned out to be the star of the show. Featuring a special design with a heated water bag and the ability to raise the head for improved sinus drainage, it provided a unique experience that really enhanced our massages. We each opted for the Bliss Treatment, a 90-minute session promising a delightful combination of scrub and massage. However, the reality fell slightly short of expectations. The scrub and massage were both limited and perfunctory, leaving us wanting more. So the massage table truly was the best thing about this place.
Crowded Pool Scene: Sharing the Retreat with Many
For those envisioning a tranquil poolside retreat after a spa session, be prepared for a different reality. The hotel pool, though available for spa-goers, was small and crowded, reducing the post-spa serenity one might crave.
The Birth of the Luxury Spa Report: Why We Do What We Do
Our experience at Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa is precisely why we initiated the Luxury Spa Report. While many travelers rely on hotel reviews, spa details are often entwined with broader accommodations. The lack of specific spa insights can leave spa enthusiasts "flying blind." Through our report, we aim to fill this void by offering honest appraisals of spa experiences, shedding light on crucial details often overlooked. The Luxury Spa Report continues its mission to guide spa enthusiasts in making informed decisions, ensuring that your time and investment are well-placed in the pursuit of ultimate relaxation.
